Kenyan Stars Lasoi and Rengeruk Ready to Compete at the Generali Prague Half Marathon

The Generali Prague Half Marathon is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday, April 5, 2025, with a highly competitive field and the potential for record-breaking performances. Among the top contenders are Kenyan runners Isaia Kipkoech Lasoi and Lilian Kasait Rengeruk, both aiming for strong performances on Prague’s fast course.

Lasoi, 25, will be making his RunCzech debut and has set his sights on victory and a possible course record. Ranked fourth globally in men’s road running by World Athletics, he has consistently finished under the one-hour mark in the half marathon for the past three seasons. His personal best of 58:10, achieved at the 2024 Copenhagen Half Marathon, was one of the fastest times in the world last year. In Prague, he will challenge the current course record of 58:24, set by Sebastian Sawe in 2024.

Lasoi has shown strong form this season, finishing fourth at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon in 59:26 despite challenging wind conditions. With his speed and consistency, he is expected to be a key contender in Prague.

In the women’s race, Lilian Kasait Rengeruk leads the elite field. The 27-year-old Kenyan had an impressive 2024 season, making a strong half marathon debut in Valencia, where she placed third with a time of 1:03:32—currently the fourth-fastest mark in history. Ranked second in the world in women’s road running, Rengeruk has also excelled on the track, having run under 30 minutes for 10,000 meters. She will be aiming to better the Prague course record of 1:04:52, set by Joyceline Jepkosgei in 2017.

“The Prague Half Marathon course is known for its speed and ideal conditions for fast times,” said Carlo Capalbo, Chairman of the RunCzech Organizing Committee. “We are excited to welcome such talented athletes and look forward to an exciting race.”

The Generali Prague Half Marathon, holding World Athletics Elite Label status, will start at 10:00 AM from Bubenské nábřeží, leading runners through the scenic streets of Prague before finishing at Holešovická tržnice. With all 16,000 race entries sold out months in advance, the event remains one of Europe’s most popular half marathons and is part of the prestigious SuperHalfs series.

With Lasoi and Rengeruk among the elite competitors, the 2025 Generali Prague Half Marathon promises an exciting day of top-tier racing, with the potential for standout performances and fast times.
