The running season is slowly starting and with it the RunCzech races. The first, more of a warm-up event, was the popular Valentine’s Day Run, which took place on Saturday 11th February. Almost 500 runners gathered at the start in Prague’s Stromovka. Vojtěch Horák was the first to finish the five-kilometre course after 17 minutes. “Traditionally, there was an amazing atmosphere here and the competitors enjoyed five kilometres. Now we are all looking forward to the Prague Half Marathon on 1 April,” said Carlo Capalbo, President of the RunCzech Organising Committee.
The race itself was started by the Olympian Eva Vrabcová Nývltová. “I like Valentine’s Day, but it’s not quite the time to celebrate,” said the runner, who is leading the training for the Prague International Marathon (to be run on May 7). Every Tuesday morning is the interval training and we always run here in Stromovka,” explained Vrabcová Nývltová.
The Pink Bubble Foundation, which helps young people fight cancer, has joined the race. “This is far from our first cooperation with RunCzech and we never refuse an offer to join a race. RunCzech always guarantees a smooth preparation, a great atmosphere and last but not least we are grateful for the considerable financial support,” comments Renata Výborná from Pink Bubble. “We want to use the funds raised for sports activities of our Bubbles, i.e. cured cancer patients, specifically for ski and snowboard lessons in the Krkonoše Mountains,” she added.
