Eight thousand participants will line up at the start of the 29th Prague International Marathon this Sunday. The event takes a beautiful route through the historical centre of Prague, offering the runners their yearly fantastic event experience. In addition to the wonderful support of the spectators, this year runners will also be accompanied by a variety of music. There will be 23 musical groups along the route as part of the Marathon Music Festival, which RunCzech is organising in cooperation with the United Islands of Prague Festival.
What is it all about? Throughout the race route, runners are supported by musicians of various genres who are as enthusiastic about their craft, as the runners are about theirs. Some of the musicians are runners, so they know how music on the course can make the atmosphere more exciting, and push people forward. After the race, runners can vote on which band they liked the best and which they would like to see at the festival next time. For example, the drumming group Tam Tam Batucada, led by Miloš Vacík, has been associated with the race for 20 years.
The Prague Marathon will start on Sunday, 5 May, at 9:00 a.m. from Old Town Square. The race includes an accompanying programme of activity, as well as the Marathon EXPO—Sports Equipment Fair at the Prague Exhibition Centre, where competitors can collect their bibs.
The 21st edition of the United Islands of Prague festival, which starts on Wednesday, offers four days of music, both from home and abroad, as well as a celebration of the Czech Republic’s twenty years in the European Union.
There is an additional celebration as Junior Marathon celebrates 20 years of cooperation with the European Union. Junior Marathon across the Czech Republic.
