Boris Becker brought inspiration to the Family Run & Friends at the Napoli City Half Marathon, an event that sold out with 1,200 participants. Designed for families, children, grandparents, and even pets, the race created a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere in the scenic paths of Mostra d’Oltremare.
Children ran alongside the superheroes of SOS Ospedale Santobono ETS, supporting initiatives for the Santobono Pediatric Hospital. The event kicked off to the rhythms of PegaOnda, whose percussionists led participants to the starting line in a festive procession.
As an Ambassador for Laureus Sport for Good Italia, Becker delivered an inspiring message. Laureus, founded 25 years ago by Nelson Mandela, is driven by the belief that “Sport has the power to change the world.” Becker, one of Laureus’ founding members, reinforced this mission: “We support 300 projects in 40 countries, helping six million children worldwide, including 2,500 in Italy. Sport has been a fundamental part of my life since I started playing tennis at six years old.”
During his visit, Becker embraced Naples’ rich traditions, from enjoying authentic pizza to reconnecting with lifelong friends. He also shared a personal milestone: “Last year, I got married and spent my honeymoon in Capri with my wife Lilian, who is running with me today.”
Highlighting the importance of an active lifestyle, Becker added, “Family values are deeply rooted in both Italy and Germany. Sport can transform lives, just as it changed mine. In today’s world, we are glued to our phones, but a strong body leads to a strong mind—and a better life.”
The Family Run & Friends concluded with joyful celebrations, as children lled Mostra d’Oltremare with energy and excitement, marking another successful edition of this beloved event.
