After a year, the challenge of overcoming the granite quarry is here again! Thousands of runners will head up the steep hill, where a significant number of them will be happy just to walk. And then through the forest to the Bedřichov dam. This is the Mattoni Liberec Nature Run which has been attracting runners already for the fifth time. In addition to a great program and entertainment, the popular race will also bring millions of crowns for the city in total revenues in multiplication resulting from this event. It all kicks off on Saturday, October 15, at the Liberec Square, with the popular dm family run also on the program. The registration can be obtained on the RunCzech.com website.
This is the only RunCzech race that is mostly run in the countryside. At the end of the season, thousands of participants run out of the city into the Jizera Mountains. And they have a great time. “Everyone is excited, but also a bit scared of the granite quarry. But when they overcome it and reach the finish line, they are happy. It is a great euphoria,” said Carlo Capalbo, the President of the RunCzech organizing committee which organizes the famous International Prague Marathon or the half marathon series in the Czech Republic.
The participants can choose either a 12-kilometre route or a longer 22-kilometre route in the Mattoni Liberec Nature Run. In both cases, they will go through the quarry which is normally closed to the public. There will be no shortage of hills and adventures. The dm family run, a 2.5-kilometre route through Liberec, is also popular and can be run by everyone.
Last year Vít Pavlišta triumphed here, and he will not be missing the start of this year’s edition either. “The organizers always laugh at me when I belittle the difficult Liberec race route, but the course is really not that difficult for Liberec. There is one steep climb, not very long hill and one short. The rest are just beautiful footpaths and a beautiful linden alley at the Masaryk Street, especially in this autumn season,” the Liberec-based long distance runner said. “I don’t set any time limits, but of course I would like to repeat the victory from previous years,” Pavlišta added.
